The following is details and pictures on how to convert a pair of struts to 2.15" coilovers for a Mk1 or Mk2 escort. This can be carried out on any rebuildable struts where the inserts can be removed, including all Capri struts and Bilsteins, for fully adjustable struts use a set of AVO or Spax top adjustable damper insterts fitted to standard Capri legs (they do not fit Bilstein casings). For those that have enquired I can carry out this work to your struts for £75 plus cost of parts, or can supply struts built to order, email with your requirements for prices. The important part is to start of with the right kind of struts, Capri or RS/Mexico ones are the type to use, these have removeable damper inserts and steering arms. All components are unbolted and the casings/ stubaxles inspected. After this the original spring hangers are carefully cut off with a grinder just above the welds
The struts are then sandblasted to remove any rust. And the rest of the weld is ground off. After careful measuring the new coilover threaded tubes are fitted and welded in to place. Some strengthening "gussets" are cut from 4mm steel and welded to the base of the tube and the stub axle "knuckle" The finished struts are then treated to a coat of Plastikote paint to prevent rust and make them look pretty. Before the damper inserts are refitted, they are now ready for the owners choice of springs and brakes.
