Pictures of Andy Burtons RS2000 restoration. Andy asked us to carry out some restoration work on his MK2 RS2000, this was a previous "Modified Concours" contender nationally and will be well known to those who have attended RS Owners Club meetings for a long time. The car was immaculate apart from around the bulkhead area where some rust seem to have escaped the previous restorers eye, this had bubbled through under the paint until some holes appeared around the heater plenum, along the lip, under the wing at the back and lower down on the bulkhead side, and a small blister on the chassis rail. We had to carefully remove the wing, scuttle grille and heater plenum panel to carry out the repairs and refit them afterwards, obviously as a concours car the repairs had to be invisible when done. When finished we primed and sealed the areas we had worked on, stone chip cotaed and resprayed the under arch area, and the car was despatched to Andy's favourite painters to repaint the front end. I believe it is still there now, but hopefully it will be back on the road one day. The pictures below show the whole process in great detail. |
